Managing Veterinarian

Dr. Nicole Jewett

Our bilingual veterinarian from southeastern New Brunswick, Dr. Jewett has fulfilled her lifelong dream of veterinary medicine through dedicated study and practice. After earning her BSc in Agriculture from Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 2001, she graduated from Atlantic Veterinary College in 2005.

Her diverse experience includes four years in mixed animal practice treating various species before focusing exclusively on dogs, cats, small holder poultry flocks, and pot-bellied pigs since moving to Fredericton in 2009. With special interests in internal medicine, ultrasound, rehabilitation, and pain management, Dr. Jewett is also a certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.

At home, Nicole and her husband Keanen raise two daughters, Isabelle and Addison, alongside their two Labrador Retrievers (Percy and Todd) and two miniature horses (Ginger and Licorice). Her hobby farm provides opportunities for gardening and tending to chickens and honeybees.

Veterinarians

Dr. Jim Berry

Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Dr. Berry holds a Bachelor and Masters in Biology and graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1990. After practicing in Ontario, he made New Brunswick his home where he now specializes in Rehabilitation, Pain Control, and Orthopedics.

His impressive credentials include certifications in acupuncture, chiropractic, rehabilitation, and pain management. A Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner, Dr. Berry has served as president of both the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association and Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. He currently holds the position of president-elect to the World Small Animal Veterinary Association.

Jim lives in the countryside with his wife Tannis, a forestry research scientist, and daughter Zoe. His animal family includes Vizsla Storm, boxer Keji (named after the provincial park), cat Nala, and newest addition Gus.

Dr. Colleen Bray

After growing up in Brampton, Ontario and earning her Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo, Dr. Bray graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 2002. Her career journey took her through practices in Ontario and England before she settled in Fredericton, joining Douglas Animal Hospital in 2009.

Colleen shares her home with her husband, two daughters, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Reese, and Persian cats Groloch and Penelope. While she enjoys all aspects of veterinary work, she has developed special interests in ultrasound, cytology, and internal medicine. Dr. Bray also provides specialized care for small companion mammals like rabbits and rodents.

Her musical talents find expression through the Fredericton Flute Choir, local choral groups, and musical theatre productions. Travel rounds out her personal interests.

Dr. David Jamael

A Fredericton native, Dr. Jamael joined Douglas Animal Hospital in 2019 after completing his Bachelor of Science at the University of New Brunswick and Veterinary Medicine program at Atlantic Veterinary College. His community involvement includes coaching youth soccer and volunteering with his St. John Ambulance therapy dog, Abby, at nursing homes and local veterinary hospitals.

With broad veterinary interests and particular focus on integrative medicine and cardiology, David shares his life with black Lab Olive and Corgi Lennon (Leni), while also enjoying time with his young daughter Naomi. Golf, soccer, guitar, and outdoor activities fill his leisure hours.

Dr. Sam Manner

A recent addition to the DAH team, Dr. Sam graduated from Ontario Veterinary College and practiced in Simcoe County before relocating to Fredericton with her sheepdog Reggie, rescue cat Kinder(egg), and partner.

She embraces the continuous learning inherent in veterinary medicine, with particular interests in preventative and internal medicine, fear-free approaches to care, and diagnostic imaging. Her free time includes hiking, playing games with family and friends, and enjoying audiobooks.

Dr. Erin Andersen

Raised in Labrador with early influences from an aunt devoted to cats and stories of a great-grandfather known for his gentle approach to huskies, Dr. Andersen studied biology at Memorial University before finding her path to veterinary medicine through work on a dairy farm.

Following graduation from Atlantic Veterinary College, her career took her to Toronto, Moncton, and five years in Richmond, Virginia, where she developed a special appreciation for connecting with pet owners and understanding their goals for their animals. Now happily settled in Fredericton with her husband Tom and cats Freja and Beatrix, Dr. Andersen brings this client-centered approach to her practice.
